CALLAS NEWS: UPCOMING EVENT

HCSNet supports and promotes interdisciplinary research in speech, language, and sonics in Australia, and brings together students and researchers from over 20 different academic disciplines to explore how human communication works. HCSNet runs SummerFest — a week-long Summer School and Conference — , a Summer School consisting of eight day-long courses on a wide variety of topics in Human Communication Science, presented by international speakers who are experts in their fields.
Within this context a course held by Catherine Pelachaud (from Université Paris 8, member of the CALLAS Consortium) will provide an overview on ECAs, their potential and use, and on the technologies involved in their creation.
As human-like entities, capable of communicating with other ECAs and/or users, ECAs are central output components of the CALLAS Shelf (see GRETA). CALLAS related work will be illustrated during the session "Emotional Machines" on December 2,2008 in Sidney.
